Look closely. Decide later.

A used-car viewing should produce notes, not pressure. Our Irish buying guides separate appearance, service evidence, independent inspection and the questions still unanswered when the keys are offered.

Reading room

A folder of receipts can look reassuring without telling a coherent story. Read it as a sequence of recorded work. The purpose is to identify what is documented, not to assume that a thick folder proves complete care.

An idea to take with you

Choose the next action

The next action might be another viewing, a professional inspection or no further contact. Each is a legitimate result.

A decision sheet succeeds when it clarifies that action, not only when it leads to a purchase.

The view from this publication

Keep the decision open

The first aim of a viewing is to learn enough to decide what to check next. This publication treats walking away as a normal outcome.

A vehicle can be interesting without being the right purchase for that reader.

Our perspective ↗

Where to check current information

Commercial conditions, requirements and road status can change. General planning guidance is not a live confirmation. Official links are places to continue checking, not evidence of a partnership or sponsorship.

Reading plans

These plans illustrate a possible reading service. They do not include hire cars, tickets, inspections or individual advice. Every article in this version remains free to read.

Four useful starting points

Match the vehicle

Check that records relate to the vehicle being viewed. Ask about inconsistent identifiers rather than overlooking them.

A plausible-looking document is not enough if it belongs to a different vehicle.

Name the conditions

Note whether the bodywork is wet, dirty or in shade. These are observations about the viewing, not allegations about the seller.

They help explain why another look may be necessary.

Read the actual record

Ask to see the relevant document rather than relying on a claim in an advert. Check identifying details and recorded information.

If verification is needed, use the official channel rather than a screenshot forwarded without context.

Do I have to pay to read?

No. The articles are open and the plans are examples.

Does the form send a real letter?

No. It validates a demo request without storing the address.

Can I book a car or a ticket?

No. This is an editorial publication, not a booking intermediary.

Do the photographs show your own tests?

No. They are contextual images with credits and licences, not evidence of tests performed by this project.

Does a guide explain every agreement?

No. Confirm the terms directly with the provider for your particular booking.

Is individual advice available?

No. Technical, legal and health questions require an appropriate professional.

Where are the other guides?

The reading room contains all four articles, with no account required.
